Description

Helium is the missing app sync and backup solution for Android.
Helium does NOT require root. All Android users can use Helium to backup and sync Android applications.Helium lets you backup your apps and data to your SD card or cloud storage. With Helium, you can sync app data from your other Android devices– even if they are not on the same network. Set up backup schedules with Helium, and never lose data again.

Helium Setup
1. Install Helium on Android
a) Root user? You’re done!
2. Install and run Helium Desktop (link below)
3. Connect Android to computer.
a) You may need to set your USB Connection Mode to “PTP”. (Nexus 7, Nexus 10, etc)
4. Helium on Android should now be enabled.

Note: Helium is NOT available to Motorola devices. This is because Motorola phones have a bug that break Android’s backup mechanism. Until this is fixed by Motorola, Helium will not work on those Androids. You can download Helium manually here:

If you find that Helium *does* work on your Motorola Android, please notify me.

Note: Some Sony devices have issues with Helium. This includes the Xperia S and Xperia Z. Sony has *disabled* backup on these devices completely.

Contacts – Backup call log and sms
SMS – Backup call log and sms
Accounts – Backup and restore from Drive
Phone State – Uniquely identify phone for Android to Android sync
Read Logs – Debugging and bug reports
Wifi – Make sure scheduled backups only happen on wifi

What’s New

What’s in this version:

Carbon has been renamed to “Helium” (trademark issue)
App icons are now stored in a .nomedia directory as a hidden dot file. Redo your backups to hopefully clear out the gallery spam.
Fixed a bugs with PC Restore.
Helium’s Windows Installer now includes the Universal ADB Driver as part of the installation. If you had device detection problems before, this may fix it!
Cloud backups are now managed separately per device
Wifi settings can now be backed up (root required)

Permissions

THIS APPLICATION HAS ACCESS TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • YOUR ACCOUNTS
    USE ACCOUNTS ON THE DEVICE
    Allows the app to request authentication tokens.
  • YOUR MESSAGES
    EDIT YOUR TEXT MESSAGES (SMS OR MMS)
    Allows the app to write to SMS messages stored on your device or SIM card. Malicious apps may delete your messages.
    READ YOUR TEXT MESSAGES (SMS OR MMS)
    Allows the app to read SMS messages stored on your device or SIM card. This allows the app to read all SMS messages, regardless of content or confidentiality.
  • NETWORK COMMUNICATION
    FULL NETWORK ACCESS
    Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet.
    CONNECT AND DISCONNECT FROM WI-FI
    Allows the app to connect to and disconnect from Wi-Fi access points and to make changes to device configuration for Wi-Fi networks.
  • PHONE CALLS
    READ PHONE STATUS AND IDENTITY
    Allows the app to access the phone features of the device. This permission allows the app to determine the phone number and device IDs, whether a call is active, and the remote number connected by a call.
  • STORAGE
    MODIFY OR DELETE THE CONTENTS OF YOUR USB STORAGE
    Allows the app to write to the USB storage.
  • YOUR APPLICATIONS INFORMATION
    RETRIEVE RUNNING APPS
    Allows the app to retrieve information about currently and recently running tasks. This may allow the app to discover information about which applications are used on the device.
  • LOCK SCREEN
    DISABLE YOUR SCREEN LOCK
    Allows the app to disable the keylock and any associated password security. For example, the phone disables the keylock when receiving an incoming phone call, then re-enables the keylock when the call is finished.
  • YOUR SOCIAL INFORMATION
    READ CALL LOG
    Allows the app to read your device’s call log, including data about incoming and outgoing calls. This permission allows apps to save your call log data, and malicious apps may share call log data without your knowledge.
    WRITE CALL LOG
    Allows the app to modify your device’s call log, including data about incoming and outgoing calls. Malicious apps may use this to erase or modify your call log.
    READ YOUR CONTACTS
    Allows the app to read data about your contacts stored on your device, including the frequency with which you’ve called, emailed, or communicated in other ways with specific individuals. This permission allows apps to save your contact data, and malicious apps may share contact data without your knowledge.
    MODIFY YOUR CONTACTS
    Allows the app to modify the data about your contacts stored on your device, including the frequency with which you’ve called, emailed, or communicated in other ways with specific contacts. This permission allows apps to delete contact data.
  • READ USER DICTIONARY
    READ TERMS YOU ADDED TO THE DICTIONARY
    Allows the app to read all words, names and phrases that the user may have stored in the user dictionary.
  • YOUR ACCOUNTS
    FIND ACCOUNTS ON THE DEVICE
    Allows the app to get the list of accounts known by the device. This may include any accounts created by applications you have installed.
  • DEVELOPMENT TOOLS
    READ SENSITIVE LOG DATA
    Allows the app to read from the system’s various log files. This allows it to discover general information about what you are doing with the device, potentially including personal or private information.
  • NETWORK COMMUNICATION
    VIEW WI-FI CONNECTIONS
    Allows the app to view information about Wi-Fi networking, such as whether Wi-Fi is enabled and name of connected Wi-Fi devices.
    VIEW NETWORK CONNECTIONS
    Allows the app to view information about network connections such as which networks exist and are connected.
    RECEIVE DATA FROM INTERNET
    Allows apps to accept cloud to device messages sent by the app’s service. Using this service will incur data usage. Malicious apps could cause excess data usage.
  • SYSTEM TOOLS
    TEST ACCESS TO PROTECTED STORAGE
    Allows the app to test a permission for USB storage that will be available on future devices.
  • AFFECTS BATTERY
    PREVENT DEVICE FROM SLEEPING
    Allows the app to prevent the device from going to sleep.
  • WRITE USER DICTIONARY
    ADD WORDS TO USER-DEFINED DICTIONARY
    Allows the app to write new words into the user dictionary.
